Most of you probably already know her as she is heavily involved in the dog and rescue community in general. But everyone please give a warm welcome to Katie our new balanced dog trainer! Here is what Katie has to say regarding her stepping into this new role and joining the team: “My love for all things training can be pinpointed to my first behavioral foster girl, Hope. She was a ‘project dog’ that needed time and consistency before ever being able to exist in a home. After jumping in with both feet with her and heavy behavioral training and seeing her start to thrive I knew the direction my passion was going towards. I have a long history of 5+ years with rescue animals and recently started at an animal hospital to broaden my spectrum of animal wellness knowledge. My family has a house full of pets with 5 dogs, 3 cats and a bearded dragon for extra spice. 🐾Training Thursday🐾 Things people think about dog training that are not true: -The goal is to have a perfect dog -The dog needs to know who is “alpha” -Well trained dogs don’t need to be consistently trained -Genetics don’t matter -Dog trainers are magical If you have this mindset, you will not be successful in training your dog. The truth about training that people don’t like to hear is that it’s actually the human that needs to be trained. I can come out and train with your dog every day, but if you don’t apply what you learned to every second of the day, it will not work. Training is all about commitment and consistency, and that is where most people fall off the wagon. Once you submit it, the appropriate trainer for the service you selected will reach out to you within 48 hours. I know this is my business and a lot of people reach out directly to me, but since Tia does 75% of our individual trainings it benefits everyone to go ahead and submit the form. We will also be hiring a new trainer in the future and want to make this process easy for everyone! If you refer us (which we absolutely love and cannot thank you guys enough), please pass along this information as well. Existing Clients: Text message, email, and/or Facebook messenger are the best way to get in contact with Tia or myself. Due to our schedule, we are not always able to answer the phone or talk for long periods of time. We are making sure to rotate play groups often to keep all the pups safe. Heat stroke is common in dogs during the summer, but can be prevented. Is your dog suffering from heat stroke? ‼️ Farm Rules ‼️ Hi guys! I wanted to address some things and make sure everyone knows the rules of the farm when dropping off and picking up! 1️⃣ See these two goobers in the picture. They are the farm’s livestock guardian dogs: River & Rogue. In order for me to remain flexible with pick up and drop off times, I must know 24 hours ahead of time when you plan on picking up and dropping off. This allows me to put these two up before you guys arrive as their whole job is to protect their goats and they are not too fond of strange dogs. If for any reason, they are out when you arrive please remain in your car until I get them in. 2️⃣ If for any reason you are running late please let me know ASAP. We do not have staff here. It is just Jess and I and while this is part of my job I also train off property and Jess also works outside of this. Also in order to keep the flow of the day, we need to know exactly when you are coming. We have a lot of animals to take care of on property, so sometimes we cannot drop everything we are doing in the moment. 3️⃣ Your dog MUST be leashed. I have barn cats, goats, chickens, and a horse who call this farm their home and my job is to keep them safe as well as your dog safe. Please make sure to tighten your dog’s collar. I have had too many dogs slip out of loose collars recently. While we are back in the woods, I would hate if your dog ran off and got hurt. 4️⃣ Like I said before we have a lot of dogs on property. We are heavily involved in rescue and house some “sanctuary” dogs as well as boarders, board & trains, and fosters; therefore, drop off and pick up occurs under the carport/driveway. For safety reasons, we do not allow people in the yards with the dogs or in the dog room. This is our home not a huge facility. We also have dogs board with us that have stranger danger and we do not want to make them uncomfortable. With that being said, please do not approach or talk to dogs in the yards. We just want to keep everyone safe. As always, I appreciate all our clients. We love you guys and consider your dogs family. Rest assured they receive the same love and care our personal dogs do! 💟

Sibling bonding time with Sabine & Luca 💞 While we are all for strengthing the bond between you and your dog, what about the bond between your dogs? Multi-dog households can be a balancing act especially when you add a new member. Luca is the latest addition to the pack in an already established five dog household and Sabine was not exactly thrilled with her new slightly annoying baby brother. So what did we do? We started training them together. Doing fun activities like training, walking, hiking, etc can help build a connection. They will also make a positive association with the other dog and the fun times they are having! No need for sibling rivalry 🙅🏽‍♀️ *Managing jealousy is also a huge aspect of this. Our golden rule is if you are giving one dog attention and another tries to push their way in, you need to ignore the dog being pushy. Set that hard boundary. Do not reward this behavior by giving them attention in that moment. Instead, wait until they walk away and settle. PSA: “No your dog cannot say hi to my dog.” 😅 And here’s why! Some dogs are: 🐾 Reactive 🐾 Fearful/insecure 🐾 In training 🐾 Not friendly with new dogs or any dogs The reason I bring this up today is because on a weekly basis I am asked this question while out in public training. I am 100% fine with the question and thank you for asking, but many people take offense when I say no which is what occurred today. Please understand that responsible dog owners are simply advocating for their dogs and they aren’t saying no to be mean. In this instance, I was working with Henry who is not allowed to say hi to dogs during training/on walks in general because he can be hyper fixated on dogs and overly friendly. We have been working hard on getting him to ignore dogs and instead focus on his handler. The other dog was on a golf cart not safely secured by his owner (no collar or leash) and was actively barking and being reactive towards Henry while his owner tried to hold him back… Meeting random dogs can actually make reactivity worse and for dogs that aren’t already reactive it can trigger them to become reactive if you aren’t careful. Please bear in mind this is not a form of proper socialization for dogs.
